Bitstamp Login
Sign in, troubleshoot access problems, and protect your account
Overview
Bitstamp is a popular cryptocurrency exchange offering fiat-to-crypto trading. This guide explains the Bitstamp login process, how to enable and use two-factor authentication (2FA), steps to recover access if you can’t log in, and best practices to keep your account secure.
How to sign in to Bitstamp
- Open the Bitstamp website or mobile app. Ensure the URL is
https://www.bitstamp.net and the connection is secure (padlock icon).
- Click or tap Log in in the top-right corner.
- Enter your registered email address and password, then select Sign in.
- If you have 2FA enabled, you’ll be prompted for your authentication code (see next section).
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA adds a second layer of protection. Bitstamp supports authenticator apps (TOTP) like Google Authenticator, Authy, or other compatible apps.
- Install an authenticator app on your phone.
- In Bitstamp settings, choose Security > Two-Factor Authentication and scan the QR code or enter the secret key manually.
- Save your backup/secret key in a secure place — it’s required for account recovery if you lose your device.
- On login, enter the 6-digit code displayed in the authenticator app.
Troubleshooting common login issues
If you can’t log in, try the following:
- Wrong password: Use the Forgot password link to reset via email.
- 2FA code not accepted: Check device time sync (authenticator apps require correct time). If your phone clock is wrong, enable automatic time or sync with network time.
- No access to email: If you lose access to your registered email, Bitstamp may ask for identity verification to move forward—contact support.
- Suspicious activity lockout: For security, excessive failed attempts may temporarily block access. Wait a short while and then try again or contact support.
Important: Never share your password or 2FA codes. Bitstamp support will not ask for your password or full 2FA code.
Account recovery
If you lose access to your 2FA device or email, follow Bitstamp’s account recovery steps:
- Initiate the recovery process from the login page (usually via Can’t access your account? or Forgot 2FA links).
- Provide requested identity documents (photo ID, selfie with ID) and any account details asked by support.
- Wait for verification—this can take a few days depending on volume.
Security best practices
- Enable 2FA and store backup codes or your secret key in a secure password manager or offline vault.
- Use a strong, unique password and change it periodically.
- Enable email alerts for logins and withdrawals where available.
- Avoid logging in on public or untrusted networks. Use a hardware wallet for long-term holdings where possible.
